Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit institutions of higher education, recognizes those students who distinguish themselves in scholarship, loyalty and service. The only honor society permitted to bear the name Jesuit, ΑΣΝ encourages its members to a lifetime pursuit of intellectual development, deepening Ignatian spirituality, service to others, and a commitment to the core principles of Jesuit education.

Stephen Marsh (Creighton University ’77)

Like a lot of Creighton alums, we had a Jesuit friend officiate our wedding. We met Rev. Ted Bohr, SJ, on a school trip to Mexico. The trip was one of the highlights of our time at Creighton. After graduating from Creighton, I was fortunate to continue my studies at Saint Louis University where I met several men of deep faith. I often arranged my schedule to attend Mass with Father Kavanaugh, S.J. and I often think of his sermons. The Jesuits have been a blessing to my life.

Alpha Sigma Nu serves as a good reminder the Jesuit message is alive and well. It is encouraging to read about the vibrant work being done at Jesuit schools. It’s always fun to see Creighton and Saint Louis University featured, but I enjoy reading about the activities at all our institutions.

I see the promise in our Jesuit Honor Society and its members now and into the future. College students are not always shown in a favorable light today. I take great comfort when reading about the good works being done at Jesuit schools and it is so important to be reminded of the global reach of the Jesuits.

Faith calls us to action. This is especially true of the call to be generous – generous with money, but more importantly, generous with our time and talents. I believe we are called to be engaged in the world.
