In Luke 6:38 Jesus says, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full.” Jesus teaches us to give to others whether that is financially or with your time and talents. Both Marquette University and Alpha Sigma Nu have in their missions to serve others. Serving others is fulfilling Jesus' wish. There is hardly a better feeling than worshipping God through helping others.
The values of Alpha Sigma Nu align with my own personal values of loyalty, academics and service. It has been an honor to be acknowledged for my academic work at Marquette University and to be a part of this society with its rich history. I love that ASN began at MU! As a student, whether that in high school or at Marquette University, I prided myself in doing well and excelling academically and challenging myself with difficult coursework. To this day, it is still very important to me to continue learning in my career as a speech pathologist. Service/volunteering continues to be an important part of my life just as it was while I was at MU. To this day, it is an honor to be a member of ASN.
There are two phrases I remember learning while at Marquette University that I believe come of Jesuit traditions. First, while walking around Marquette campus as a student, I remember seeing the corning stones A.M.G.D (Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam) meaning "For the greater glory of God." I also often remind myself of another phrase I learned while at MU, Cura Personalis or care of the whole person. Being reminded of these values in my life beyond Marquette and Alpha Sigma Nu remains important to me in my professional and personal life and my faith journey.
